When I lived in England, I had a headache one day in London. I walked into a "Boots" Pharmacy (their CVS or Walgreens) and said I wanted Tylenol (aka: acetaminophen). They would let me only buy about 6 (or 10...time blurs memories) pills. When I said, "Hell, just give me a bottle cause I know we were out of it at home", they said nope... suicide risk is too great. I laughed and said, "You don't understand, I'm taking it home and I love life" and they said , by law they could only sell this many pills to one person at a time. The government won't let you buy that many...period. Here in the U.S., Sam's Club will sell you 500 pills to a bottle and as many bottles as you can carry out the door. God Bless America.

What does the failure of the Iranian Green Revolution mean to U.S. Interests?

1. Iran will continue unabated towards achieving its goal of Nuclear weapons. This would have continued under Mousavi anyway, so it's a wash as far as weapons development. What is apparent is there will be no Obama style "unclenching of the fist " by Iran. Couple that with Ahmadinejad's recent public, personal slap down of Obama and the slowness/reluctance to criticize the Iranian Islamic fascists by the administration and the result is that the Whitehouse and Hillary at Foggy Bottom have, within six months, projected an image of utter impotence of American power. This has not only ramifications in the Middle East, but also worldwide. The current administration has become a laughing stock. In foreign policy and statecraft, there are two essential traits that a power must command from others: Respect and/or Fear. Wanting to be liked is naive.

2. Iran will ramp up its efforts in Iraq, Lebanon and Gaza. They need to get the spotlight off of them ASAP (Admittedly , with the U.S. Press, Michael Jackson has done that, but soon he will be six feet under and the press will move on) and the best way is to have their surrogates start making trouble. Already, we are seeing spikes in attacks in Iraq as the U.S. departs cities, some attacks happening within hours of the U.S. leaving the area. As for Hezbollah and Hamas, their puppet masters in Iran will encourage them to start making trouble for Israel. This is to keep Israel occupied locally, incite Muslim anger towards Israel and make it more difficult for Bibi Netanyahu to take action against the Iranian Bomb. My humble opinion is that the Israel doesn't have the assets to stop Iran anyway and would not get the green light or support from the Obama administration even if they could do something.

3. Unless The Obama Administration is playing "possum", expect Iran to have a working Nuclear Device within 24-36 months, if not sooner. Despite saying a nuclear armed Iran is unacceptable, the Obama administration will roll over and adjust to the new reality. What will be interesting will be the administration's reaction when, as soon as Iran goes Nuke, Israel comes clean on their Nuclear arsenal. I bet Israel will get the short end of the stick as far as administration rhetoric goes. It appears this administration has a deep-seated bias against Israel and I wouldn't be surprised if the Whitehouse condemns Israel in harsher tones than Iran once the Nuke Dragon rears its head in the Middle East. I predict Israel will adopt the only successful Nuclear Defense ever achieved by Mankind... Cold War style Mutually-Assured-Destruction (aka MAD). They will tell the Islamic world that if Israel goes hit with a Nuke, everyone gets hit...Tehran, Mecca, Riyadh, Damascus, Lebanon..the whole she-bang. This puts all parties on the hook and having a vested interest to keep Iran at bay. Bottom Line: Once Iran gets the Bomb and Israel unsheathes the true extent of its armory, Katie bar the door... We will have a full blown Nuclear Arms race in the Middle East. Congrats Obama: It will happen on your watch.

4. Don't expect the Iranian regime to fall anytime soon. Unless we (the good ole U.S.A) take an active role in undermining the Thugocracy in Iran...Expect the current regime to ride out the next 5-10 years relatively revolt free. Hell, it could be 20 years before another serious attempt is made to overthrow the Mullahs (that is, If it all doesn't vaporize into a radioactive cloud). Obama's actions in 2009 will gone down in infamy, along the same lines as the West's reactions when Hitler re-militarized the Rhineland in 1936.

What will the Obama Administrations response be?

1. Ineffectual Blather. That's pretty much sums that up... On to the next topic...

What should the U.S. response be? Here is my official Bloggy Bayou Plan of action:


1. Regime Change in Iran. There is no #2. Let's face it, there is no will in the American people to launch a pre-emptive strike on Iranian Nuke facilities. It will play into the Mullah's hands and harden the Thugocracy's hold on power. Sooner or later, the Mullahs will have to loosen their grip on everyday life or else face more riots. They will follow the Chinese post-Tienanmen square example of jailing leading agitators (executions?), clamp down on the universities and then slowly loosen restrictions on commerce and communications. As long as the populace remains docile, information (cell phones/Internet) and press restrictions will ease. First sign of unrest, the mullahs will clamp down again and maybe some more executions. It worked in China and it will work in Iran. Why? Monopoly of force.

The only real solution is to return to our American Roots as a the most successful example revolutionary action in the History of mankind. We need only a two-prong effort:

a. First Prong: Information: We actively fund exiled Iranian communication assets and have them start agitating for a "Mullah-free, Secular State". (Mousavi is toast and good riddance as far as I'm concerned. ) There are already Farsi language stations in the West who revile the Thugocracy and would gladly participate in our propaganda effort. Yes, you heard it Right ... Propaganda... We Americans are the greatest communicators in the world. We were the masters of overt propaganda during WWII. Post-war we swept the world with our ideas, customs and culture and we did it without even trying. We are talking blue jeans and Elvis baby. This time we will do it 21st century style and make it go viral. Hire top tier producers, technicians and Techno- geeks, introduce them to the Iranian Exile groups and before you know it, you will have every under 30 year old Persian in the world bopping to the freedom beat courtesy of the You Tube/Internet/smuggled DVD's and satellite comms. Crazy Hip-hop with a Farsi swing, hep-cats and all that jazz.... Fine tune it towards those Gorgeous Persian Chicks, let them know that they have GRRRRRRRRL Power, turn them loose and make 'em love it... "Whiskey, sexy, freedom!".

b. Second Prong: 9mm pistols: This one is going to REALLY piss off the Mullahs and the Obama/Pelosi wing of the party. But truly brilliant ideas are usually the simplest. We dump a couple of Billion Dollars into our own firearms manufacturers (Colt/S&W/Ruger, Berretta USA, etc) and we have them mass produce the equivalent of a standard issue 9mm as well as a small concealed 9mm version. We then dump another billion or so in 9mm ammunition and spare clips. And here is the kicker, we stamp every single piece of hardware; Bullets, gun frames, barrels, clips: "MADE IN THE USA" and then proceed to smuggle/dump them into Iran. We start arming the Non-Persian Minorities and the more radical urbanites. We make them faster than they can confiscate them. We float Iran in a sea of 9mm small arms. We give the middle finger to Ahmadinejad and his merry band of Fascists and tell the opposition to keep the weapons oiled and powder dry. We don't deny doing it, we revel in it. We embrace it. We call it what it is: Standing up for the little guy. The result will be the breaking of the monopoly of force of the Thugocracy. Armed marchers are a lot harder to break up than non-armed. Within a year, 18 months tops, you would have an armed under 30 populace that would, quite simply, out gun the opposition by sheer weight of numbers and small arms. The great thing about just issuing pistols, is that they really don't pose a threat to other countries but they sure as hell make a million man riot interesting. I know, I know, the left in America will say "Iran will retaliate in Iraq with IEDs, support the radicals, etc". My answer is... They are already doing that and it's gonna escalate as we withdraw more troops. Iran is willing to export terror. We must be willing to export revolution. The only real hope for Iraq and the Middle East has for peace is regime change in Iran. An Iran more concerned about everyday life of its people, creating jobs and putting food on its table will be a lot less interested in funding Hezbollah and Hamas and threatening Israel. Neutralize Iran and you lower the political temperature by about 100 degrees in the Middle East. And when those student's and protesters stand astride their streets, free of the beatings and whippings of the Fascist Revolutionary Guard, they will look at that pistol in their hand and know who helped make it possible. The good Ole' USA. Then we corner the Iranian market on IPods, jeans and take-out pizza. Cause that's what we do....

So there you go. My personal plan for peace in the Middle East. 100% guaranteed to rock Iran to its core. Persian Rock and Roll, YouTube and 9mm Pistols, all rolled up into one big overpowering wave. It would work. America only needs the will to do it.

He was in it for self-aggrandisement; Like Hitler and the Munich Beer Hall Putsch of 1923, Mousavi ran for cover when it became apparent the jig was up. (Once again: I called it earlier)

I'll try to sit down today and try to explain the trouble this spells for Obama, and much more importantly, the U.S.A. In the true spirit of America, I'll also spell out some options and actions we can do to counteract the Iranian revolt failure and the apparent entrenchment of the Islamofascists.

Obama's handling of this crisis and of his conduct of foreign policy in general has turned into an unmitigated disaster. The grassroots should start to insist to our respective Senators that the more they remain silent over his continued incompetence, the bigger the price they will pay at the polls.

From the public perspective, the most serious issue that concerning Governor Sanford's behavior was his dereliction of duty. From my perspective as retired military, there is no way a man of the Governor's stature and position could go missing for a week and get away with it. In the Navy, you were held accountable for your location and subject to recall at all times. If you wanted to leave the immediate area of your command, you had to ASK permission and had to burn leave time. Period. The rule applied from Admiral to Seaman Apprentice. Indeed, the more senior you got, the tighter the leash. There is no possible way a four star Admiral on active command can just "disappear" for a week and not let his deputy commander know where he is. He would get relieved of command for dereliction of duty. The same accountability must be held for a Governor. Like Spider-Man, with great powers come great responsibility.

As for the extra-marital affair: The sooner Republicans get off this high horse with our politicians, the better. What goes on behind closed doors of one's personal life is between the two adults in the room. Period. If Governor Sanford had told his wife what he was doing and had told his staff and Lt. Governor he was taking some personal time and then gone on vacation to South America for a week, then, in my eyes, that would have been the end of the matter. Whether he went down there to see a woman would be none of my damn business.

Calling him a Bastard might feel good, but it shouldn't be a pundit's job to vent on private matters of a sexual kind.

My choice of word would be "dumbass" for the way he took what should have been a very private matter ("The Eternal Triangle") and mishandled it into a very public mess.

Obama is in the middle of his first REAL foreign policy crisis... and since no American lives are at risk, it's telling that his own indecision and lack of leadership makes it all the more frighting. Presidents have to be able to make "Life or Death" decisions with a cold eye towards the greater good of U.S. interests. A reputation for indecision and fecklessness invites challenges...

The North Koreans were the first to test him and for all practical purposes, Obama has found himself impotent to convince the Russia and China to back him up... I strongly suspect that the dispatch of the USS John McCain to shadow a North Korean Cargo ship suspected of having a cargo of illicit weapons parts as a "Show of Force" is exactly that... a mere show with no action.

His lack of leadership and willingness to go out and ringingly endorse the protests in Iran (Remember Reagan and his support of the Polish Labor Unions and Lech Walesa?) have no doubt left the enemies of the U.S. with the impression that's it's leader is just a "Paper Tiger" in the mold of Jimmy Carter.

Inside the United States, Obama's practice of thug politics at home against the "loyal" opposition, while cowering in the international arena where we expect our president to be the defender of U.S. Interests (not Apologist-in-Chief) will begin to alienate the majority of Americans, who, despite the Left's insistence to contrary, believe in America's special place in the world as the leading voice for freedom and individuality. It will be increasingly obvious as time passes that Obama will be revealed to be exactly what he was raised as, A Chicago machine-thug politician that uses bully tactics at the first sign of internal opposition. And as most bullies they are at heart moral and ethical cowards.

Say what you will about the Iranian youth's taking to the streets this week... call them foolishly idealistic, call them pawns of a leader who is just a fascist as the current regime (which I believe is sadly the case), but you can't call them cowards....Which is more than you can say for our President....

We are talking about making a joke about rape at the expense of a 14 year old girl.

The rejection of modern western medical science in favor of "Voodoo" medicine is part of a larger trend in American society, the failure to appreciate and embrace technology and science. From the Global Warming charlatans, the anti Nuclear power wacko's and on to the whole "organic foods" scam (and the list is endless) , Americans are quietly, but surely, becoming less and less scientifically literate. Not just at the expert level (We are becoming more dependant on scientists, doctors and engineers coming from overseas to meet our needs vice our own children rising to fill this void) but also at the laymen level, which, for example, results in people thinking they can merely "diet" away cancer once they are diagnosed....

UPDATE: Note that USA, on the other hand, has a glut of lawyers, including the POTUS and FLOTUS...That might explain a lot. Tort reform is needed badly, if just so our Doctors can practice medicine successfully.

Pro-Western Majority Declares Victory in Lebanon

Before you get all excited about it, it is a status quo election. Yes the "Pro Western" factions won a majority, but the parliamentary seat allocation remains the same as before the election (which resulted in an ineffective and stalemated central government). Remember, almost half the country voted for Hezbollah or its allies and that's like saying in 1933, almost half the Germans voted for the Nazis (Note: The Nazis NEVER won a majority of the Reichstag. Hitler had only 33% of the Reichstag seats when he entered a coalition with Franz von Papen, so Hezbollah is technically in a better position now than Hitler was in 1933.)

Second, Hezbollah is not known for playing role of "loyal opposition". It is a terrorist organization that WILL CONTINUE to use violence to achieve political mastery of Lebanon. If/when that is done, expect the death squads to go into overdrive to cement its grip on power.

Ahmadinejad: Iran Is a Nuclear Power Ready to Participate in Running the World

In foreign policy and statecraft, there are two essential traits that a power must command from others: Respect and/or Fear.

Trying to be liked is not an option, indeed, it usually winds hurting the power in the long run. George W. Bush never gave a damn about being liked and I strongly suspect that he was respected by many leaders and feared by even more. Granted, he wasn't the most articulate of men and he lost his way both domestically and in Iraq right after his re-election in 2004. But I assure you Iran has waited till he was safely out power before making, what now appears, that final push to acquire nuclear weapons.

Iran knows Obama is an empty suit and has no stomach for diplomatic hardball. He wants to be liked and indeed, has always been adored and or loved throughout his political career. The fawning press (did anyone watch that godawful puff piece on NBC?) just re-enforces this mindset with him and his administration. Put it all together and you got a President that a) commands no respect and b) no one fears. That's a damn bad condition to be in when Iran sparks off a nuclear arms race in the Middle East.

You Spent over A TRILLION DOLLARS with NO DEBATE and Now You Want A DO-OVER?

"Slow Joe" Biden says the Hope and Change team want a Do-Over/Mulligan on the Porkulus Bill!

As we approach the 65th Anniversary of the Normandy Invasion, lets take a moment to reflect upon it and truly admire the men who planned it, the nations that provided the armament and most importantly, the warriors who stormed the beaches to help liberate a Continent. They got it right the first time. To have gotten it wrong would have meant disaster and even more men dying because of prolonged war. A "Do-Over" was NOT an option.

Now look at the team of Barak Obama and "Slow Joe" Biden and let it seep into your most inner core of consciousness what June 6th 1944 would have been like if these two were in charge. Really, compare the team of Eisenhower and Bradley to Obama and Biden. In all honesty, given the choice, which team would you want leading us now?

I, for one, would say: "I would hope that the wise mid-western poor rural white boys with the richness of their experiences would more often than not resolve the situation better than a couple of Washington DC political hacks who haven't lived that life."

Would that be wrong of me to say?

First: Fix Medicare!

I got this link from Instapundit. The idea is BRILLIANT! I wish I had thought of it.

This should be the rallying cry of every Republican in the country. Before we commit another multi-trillion Dollars to the Obama led Federal government, let them first prove that they know what they are doing. (Learn to walk before run theory) Everyone knows Medicare is ripe with corruption, fraud and flat out incompetence from a bureaucracy that is vastly overstaffed and underachieving. Let a blue ribbon panel of equal number of Republicans and Democrats come up with a common core set of metrics. Then let Obama manage the system and see if can reduce the costs and increase efficiency.

The way to sell this is to let our seniors (and those who expect to be medicare aged in the next decade) know that if we go all in for national health care THAT RATIONING and DENIAL of care of the elderly will be how they cut costs. That's how they do it in Britain, Canada and the rest of the world that has a state-run single payer system. I know of what I speak.

The idea is to first fix Medicare so those who have put the most into the system are guaranteed their monies worth as they enter the golden years. The genius of this will be that there is no way the government can fix Medicare and why the hell should we let a bunch of nameless bureaucrats and greedy politicians screw up our private health care system for us that work, pay taxes and still provide medical insurance for our families without government aid.

At the same time the Republican party needs to put forth a free market solution to our health care costs and number one should be tort reform. Republicans should be in the business of guaranteeing our best and brightest go into medicine. Let the Democrats defend those blood sucking ambulance chasers!

Call/email/write your congressman, your senators, your local Republican Party. Email every conservative blog and newspaper. The idea is simple: Obama: PROVE YOU CAN WALK BEFORE YOU OVERCHARGE US TO RUN! FIX MEDICARE FIRST!

How about taking them to task for not allowing free speech without fear of torture or worse? How insisting on tolerance for other religions and beliefs? How about condemning the cult of death that permeates Palestinian culture and the enablers of such an ideology, Hamas, Hezbollah and their sponsor of Iran? HOW ABOUT TAKING PRIDE IN YOUR OWN COUNTRY????

During WWII Winston Churchill rightly pointed out that the populations of Germany and Japan were not innocent victims of tyrannical regimes but were culpable partners in crime because they, the people, allowed those regimes to incubate, grow and then thrive in their midst. The same goes for the despots and theocracies in the Middle East. When a non-Muslim can wander the streets of Mecca as a welcome visitor, unmolested and unafraid, just as a Muslim can wander around Vatican City, Notre Dame, the Washington Cathedral or any other holy site as most all Non-Muslim states allow, then I will I change my mind about Islam. For now,the bulk of the Middle East, it is still mired in the 13th Century and continues to be a repressive, ugly blotch on civilization's march towards enlightenment.
